THAI PM SET TO SPEED UP THAILAND-CHINA RAILWAY PROJECT

THAI PRIME MINISTER PRAYUT CHAN-O-CHAconfirmed on June 13 he will use Article 44 to accelerate the Thailand-China railway project.

Speaking at the Government House following a weekly cabinet meeting, Prayut said he will use Article 44's power to solve legal snags impeding the construction of an initial stretch of the 252-kilometer highspeed train project between Bangkok and Nakhon Ratchasima province, part of the rail project designed to link southwest China's Yunnan Province with northeastern Thailand via northern Laos.

He said that the delay in the Thailand-China railway project due to legal difficulties had already been discussed by his cabinet members and that Article 44 will be enforced.

He said he had originally not intended to implement Article 44, though he said in the end its use was required to advance the railway project.
