How to Prevent Bugs and Rainfalls
In the Northern jungle, tick worms, scrub insects, can take humans as their target. Although these worms are small in size, one can never underestimate them. Ticks can spread encephalitis viruses, causing people to suffer from forest encephalitis, and after being bitten by scrub worms, they will suffer from scrub typhus. Both diseases have been reported to be fatal.
The other thing to be cautions about is the rain. July is the rainy season in the Northern hemisphere jungles. Heavy rain can easily lead to landslides, falling stone, so we must be well prepared when we are out in the field!
How to Distinguish the Direction
Tips: How to identify the direction by shadows?
Insert a branch perpendicular to the ground and record the direction of the shadow.Record it again in 15 minutes. The line between the end of each shadow the end of the shadow is the east-west direction, and the side that is first marked is the West. The direction perpendicular to the line is north-south.
Where to Put up a Tent
To put up a tent, you must choose a flat, open ground which is far away from streams and mountains. The basic selecting criteria are: the vertical height from the surface of the water should be at least 5 meters so that there will be enough time to escape in case of flood discharge and rising water levels in violent storms; to keep away from mountains is to avoid injury from falling rocks or mud slides.
How to Make Fire in the Wild
The best way to make a fire in the field is to use a relatively professional method such as windproof matches, lighters or flint stones. Its better to avoid using the primitive of method of drilling to make fire, which is not likely to work even for professionals.
Where to Find Water
There are generally two ways to find water: 1. Walk down towards the low-lying place where you will probably find streams with undrinkable water because of animal waste and bacteria flowing down from the upstream. In this case, the water must be boiled to kill the bacteria in the water to ensure the safety; 2. Edible plants can be used to obtain water because their flowers, fruits, leaves, stems, roots can be used as water source, so botany is the necessary knowledge when walking in the field for it can be used to identify the toxicity of plants.
