China-Ethiopia made fruitful results in production capacity cooperation

The delegation organized by China National Textile and Apparel Council (CNTAC) made an investigation in Ethiopia on June 5th. The delegation consisted of 17 people in the field of spinning, dyeing and printing, knitting and garment industry. It was the third time to make an investigation in Ethiopia led by CNTAC.
The delegation held a meeting with Dr. Arkabbe, adviser to prime minister of Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia, who extended a warm welcome to the delegation and expressed heartful thanks to the contribution of Chinas textile and garment enterprises to Ethiopia in the past few years.
Lin Yunfeng, director of CNTAC International Trade Office, secretary-general of China Textile Go Global Union, and vice president of China Council for the Promotion of International Trade, indicated that CNTAC with relative institutions of Ethiopia, has been engaged in capacity cooperation in textile industry between the two countries. Under the joint efforts of both sides, the cooperation has achieved remarkable results, and at present, CNTAC has listed Ethiopia as a key country to carry out capacity cooperation. In addition, they reviewed several important historical moments in the past.
In March 2016, CNTAC and Ethiopian Investment Committee signed a memorandum of cooperation to strengthen exchange of information and shared investment dividends by establishing consultation and coordination mechanisms.
In October 2016, CNTAC and Ethiopian Investment Committee jointly held Ethiopia Investment Conference, during which, Dr. Arkabbe introduced the investment environment and potential of Ethiopia.
On May 12, 2017, on the eve of the summit of Belt and Road Forum of International Cooperation, CNTAC and Ethiopia Embassy in China organized a meeting between prime minister of Ethiopian and Chinas textile entrepreneurs in Beijing, with more than 30 representatives from 12 enterprises attending the meeting.
Dr. Arkabbe stressed that Ethiopia has put textile and garment industry as a priority area in the process of industrialization and has been committed to strengthening the construction of infrastructure and industrial park. After finishing investment attraction of the first phase of Awasa Industrial Park, the one and a half phase of project would be completed on June 20th, and Dire Dawa Industrial Park located in eastern Ethiopia has started in March this year. The Ethiopia government was committed to achieve the textile and garment exports of $30 billion in 2025.
The delegation of CNTAC would hold bilateral conferences with Ethiopian Investment Committee to discuss the cooperation and preferential policies and foreign exchange and other issues. In addition, the delegation would also visit Awasa Industrial Park and Dire Dawa Industrial Park.
