三、閱读理解

Students these days often have a lot of worries. Sometimes they have problems with their schoolwork, and sometimes with their friends. What can they do about this? Some people think the worst thing is to do nothing. Laura Mills, a teenager from Washington, agrees. “Problems and worries are normal in life,” says Laura. “But I think talking to someone helps a lot. If we don’t talk to someone, we’ll feel worse.”

Laura once lost her phone, and worried for days. She was afraid to tell her parents about it. She just kept thinking, “If I tell my parents, they’ll be angry!” But in the end, she talked to her parents and they were really understanding. Her dad said he sometimes made careless mistakes himself. They got her a new phone and asked her to be more careful. “I will always remember to share my problems in the future!” Laura says.

Robert Hunt advises students about common problems. He feels the same way as Laura. “It is best not to avoid (避免) our problems. We should always try to solve (解决) them.” He thinks that you can first find someone to talk to. This person doesn’t need to be an expert (专家) like himself. Students often forget that their parents have more experience than them, and are always there to help them.

In English, we say that sharing a problem is like cutting it in half. So you’re halfway to work out a problem if you talk to someone about it!

三、阅读理解

Many people go to school for an education. They learn languages, history, politics, geography, physics, chemistry and mathematics. Others go to school to learn a skill (技术) so that they can make a living.

School education is very important and useful. Yet, no one can learn everything from school. A teacher, no matter how much he knows, can not teach his students everything they want to know. The teacher’s job is to show his students how to learn. He teaches them how to read and how to think. So, much more is to be learned outside school by the students themselves.

It is always more important to know how to study by oneself than to memorize (记住) some facts or a formula (公式). It is actually quite easy to learn a certain fact in history or a formula in math. But it is very difficult to use a formula in working out a math problem.

Great scientists before us didn’t get everything from school. Their teachers only showed them the way. Edison didn’t even finish primary school. But they were all so successful. They invented (发明) so many things for mankind. The reason for their success is that they knew how to study. They read books that were not taught at school. They would ask many questions as they read. They did thousands of experiments. They worked hard all their lives, wasting not a moment. Above all, they knew how to think by themselves.

( ) 3. To work out a math problem, you need to know ___ .

A. only a certain formulaB. a certain fact

C. some factsD. the way to solve it

( ) 4. Why were many scientists successful?

A. They were very clever.

B. They knew how to learn.

C. They received good education.

D. They learned lots of facts and formulas.

( ) 5. What can we know from the last paragraph?

A. Edison didn’t go to school.

B. Great scientists can’t learn much from school.
