2017 SPRING FESTIVAL TRAVEL TIPS

春运乘机早知道

The 2017 edition of the Chinese Spring Festival Travel Rush, or Chunyun in Chinese, started on January 13th, and will last for 40 days until February 21st. It is estimated that China Southern will carry nearly 11 million passengers during the annual travel peak.

This year's peak air travel season has arrived fairly early and has seen larger peak traffic flows that will last longer than in previous years. More complicated weather conditions also add pressure to major air carriers like China Southern. A year earlier, Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport saw its peak transit traffic for the year of 2016, with more than 10,000 passengers transiting via the regional air hub in a single day. This year, the peak transit traffic is expected to grow even larger. Internationally, Sydney, Melbourne, Los Angeles, Bangkok and Ho Chi Minh City are some of the hottest destinations. Beijing, Shanghai, Wuhan and Zhengzhou are major sources of passengers.

1. During this year's Chunyun, China Southern's check-in counters at Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport open an hour earlier than usual at 4:00 a.m. for domestic flights and at 5:30 a.m. for international flights.

2. China Southern opens a counter (C4) dedicated to servicing special passengers, including wheelchair users, unaccompanied children, the elderly and pregnant women.

3. China Southern's young volunteers in red vests are waiting at the terminals of Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport and are ready to answer any enquiries from passengers.

4. The cabins of all China Southern airplanes that fly during the Chinese New Year's Eve (Jan. 27th) and the fifth day (Feb. 1st) into Chinese New Year feature special decoration to create a strong festive ambiance, high up in the air.

On 9th January 2017, Tencent officially put its “WeChat mini programme” online, which allows lightweight third-party apps to be incorporated within the WeChat app itself. In immediate response to this, China Southern launched an application of such kind, dubbed “China Southern e-Travel”. The little but functional programme offers an experience much like a traditional app, but it doesn't have to be downloaded before use. It works basically on a use-asyou-walk-in basis.

Recently, China Southern launched a chauffeur service that encompasses a suite of air-ground travel solutions. The“door-to-cabin” (or “cabin-to-door”) drop-off/pick-up service is one of a series of products/services under an air-ground combined transport platform launched lately by China Southern. The service is designed to meet the needs of mid/ high-end customers and is available in selected major cities in mainland China, including those located in the Pearl River Delta region.

On 19th December 2016, China Southern kicked off a new Open Day when ten lucky families walked into the office of Cabin Service Division of Asia's largest airline and took a tour of how cabin crew members prepare for a flight. They were also introduced to China Southern's customer service culture and had a firsthand experience of China Southern's premium services through a simulated maiden flight. This was the last of a series of four Open Day campaigns held by China Southern in 2016.
