Switzerland is one of the richest countries in the world. But if you consider wealth to be merely expensive jewelry and brand luggage, you are mistaken.

In Switzerland, what people are more interested in than luxury goods is fishing in a lake amid the mountains, a gourmet meal made using local produce, a visit to a historic castle or a famous museum, a glass of local wine that you won't find elsewhere, or a terraced vineyard preserved at the cost of economic interests.

Mont Salève is a key place to visit when it comes to getting to know Geneva. Mont Salève, the“Balcony” of Geneva, is actually located on French terrain. This is because Lake Geneva lies on the border between France and Switzerland.

In Switzerland, mountain cliffs are the gliders' favorite spot. Mont Salève is no exception. When the weather is good, the adrenaline junkies jump off Mont Salève and cross the border, flying freely above Geneva like a bird.

Twenty three year old Baltasar takes tourists fishing in Lake Geneva every day. This ambitious young man bought his first boat at the age of 13 with the money he earned by singing in hotels. He now ownsfive boats. Baltasar told us that one doesn't fish as much as they want in Lake Geneva. To maintain the eco balance, the Swiss Confederation made the laws on fishing and hunting in Constitution. Everyone fishing in the country is restricted to catching a certain amount of fish.

The Lavaux area at the north shore of Lake Geneva is home to vineyards that stretch for 30 kilometers. The region has the enviable reputation of having the most beautiful vineyards in the world. However, as urbanization grew, the winemaking towns started to feel threatened. However, most of the people in Lavaux choose the preservation of the old vineyards passed down by their ancestors over economic interests. This persistence and belief put Lavaux on the UNESCO World Heritage list in 2007. One of the reasons the region made the list is as follows:“The Lavaux vineyard landscape is an outstanding example that displays centuries of interaction between people and their environment in a very specific and productive way, optimising the local resources to produce a highly valued wine that was a significant part of the local economy.”
