New York Comic Con (NYCC) attracted tens of thousands of people to the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center in midtown Manhattan over the weekend. The annual four-day pop-culture event ran from October 6 to 9, and brought together fans of comic books, science fiction, gaming, movies, and television. Many media companies and publishers preview their new comics, movies, and shows at the event, which also includes author panels and autograph sessions.
Convention-goers of all ages showed up in elaborate costumes. Many were dressed as superheroes such as Spider-Man, Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman, as well as aliens from outer space, monsters, and characters from popular video games.
“I came to see the crowds and the people in costumes,” CeCe Radalin, 14, of Jonestown, New York, told TFK. “Im also here for the panel discussions about the stuff Im into, like Japanese animation and video games.” CeCe was dressed as Toko Fukawa, a character from the Japanese video game Danganronpa. NYCC 2016 marked her fourth time attending the convention. The most interesting thing she saw this year: “I counted 15 people dressed like Harley Quinn—15!”
NYCC 2016 featured presentations from popular TV shows and major upcoming movies. On Thursday, audiences got to see the world premiere of the animated film Batman: Return of the Caped Crusaders. The film is based on the Batman TV series from the 1960s and features the voices of original cast members Adam West (as Batman), Burt Ward (as Robin), and Julie Newmar (as Catwoman). West was on hand for a panel discussion about the film.
