Karl Marx was an “economist and political philosopher” who affected the course of world history. However， with the passage of time， the image of Karl Marx in the modern world more than a century later is one that is fixed like a sculpture which is imposing and seems unapproachable.

Renowned German scholar， Fred E. Schrader， a Distinguished Professor at Fudan University， is one of a handful of people who can identify Marxs handwriting and one of an extremely small group of scholars in the world who have read all of Marxs manuscripts. In an exclusive interview with Caijing， Mr. Schrader shared in detail the Karl Marx he has come to know through his manuscripts， as he described a familiar figure who seems like a stranger to us at the same time.
