Indian Presidents Visit to China

May 26, Beijing: Chinese President Xi Jinping holds a welcome ceremony for Indian President Pranab Mukherjee before their talks in the Great Hall of the People in Beijing. Upon an invitation from Chinese President Xi Jinping, Indian President Pranab Mukherjee made a state visit to China from May 24 to 27. During the visit, Chinese leaders held talks and meetings with Mukherjee to conduct in-depth exchange on the state of bilateral ties and issues of shared interest. The trip marked the Indian presidents first state visit to China since he took office in 2012 and has been one of the most important high-level interactions between the neighboring countries in 2016, according to the Chinese Foreign Ministry. The China-India relationship has maintained good momentum marked by healthy and stable development in recent years, and bilateral ties entered a new era of rapid growth after President Xi visited India in 2014 and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited China in 2015.

Booming Tourism

May 19th marked both Chinas Tourism Day and the commencement of the first World Conference on Tourism for Development in Beijing. In recent years, with increasing domestic consumption, travel is no longer a luxury for the few but rather a necessary consumption activity for the average Chinese citizen. As Chinese Premier Li Keqiang suggested at the opening ceremony of the conference, tourism is becoming a driving force in creating sustainable economic development in China.

In 2015, Chinese tourists made more than 4 billion domestic visits, and expenses related to travel accounted for 10 percent of all household spending. Over 120 million outbound visits were made by Chinese tourists and China received 130 million inbound tourists from abroad. Forecasts show that by 2020, the number of per capita trips by Chinese tourists and the countrys tourism revenue will both double.

Chinese Badminton Takes Uber Cup

May 21, Kunshan, Jiangsu Province: Chinese badminton players take a selfie during the award ceremony after defeating South Korea to win the BWF Uber Cup 2016. Top-seeded China secured its third straight Uber Cup title by beating South Korea 3 to 1 in the final match. Three times in the past four years, China and South Korea faced off in the finale. The host reinforced its dominant position with a 14th Uber Cup.
