In the past year or so, China Southern Airlines launched 179 new routes in 69 cities from 36 countries and regions of the “One Belt One Road” region, transporting a total of 4.745 million passengers (excluding those carried by Xiamen Airlines). Now China Southern has become the main carrier in the “One Belt One Road” area.
Recently, China Southern Airlines launched its Summer-Autumn fl ight schedule, compliant with the China's “One Belt One Road” strategy to develop 36 new services including eight international routes, such as Guangzhou-Phu Quoc Island, Shanghai-Osaka, Shanghai-Fukuoka, Guiyang-Seoul, and Changsha-Chiang Mai (peak season only). On April 26th, the airline resumed its Guangzhou-Kathmandu service. In addition, China Southern Airlines will invest more on its North American routes. Those fl ights on the European routes will use bigger planes during the peak season. China Southern will increase its capacities for its Japan, Korea and Southeast Asia services, and retains its role as the main carrier for passengers from China to Australia and New Zealand, with the number of weekly fl ights to and from Australasia approaching 60.

During the 2016 Summer-Autumn Schedule season, China Southern Airlines will continue to develop the number of its domestic routes, focused on steadily expanding China's Western markets , with 82 services departing from Xinjiang, an increase up to 12.3% over last year, including 19 international and regional routes to destinations such as Dushanbe, Tehran and Baku. With a large route coverage coupled with dense fl ight frequencies, China Southern Airlines' Xinjiang inbound and outbound fl ights enjoy a full coverage in eight Middle and Western Asian countries, all China's capital cities and those fi rst and second-tier cities, forming an air hub within fi ve-hour Urumqi inbound and outboud fl ights.
Via its Urumqi Hub, China Southern is expanding its international services and cooperation to the “One Belt One Road” region to help promote the local areas. For instance, China Southern teamed up with the Gansu Provincial government to launch new routes such as Lanzhou-Urumqi-Dubai, Lanzhou-Urumqi, and Lanzhou-Urumqi-Saint Petersburg-Tbilisi, establishing an Air Express between the “One Belt One Road” cities and countries.
