Striding Over 100 Million Tons and Setting Off for New Journey
2016-01-03
On July 28, with the classification of “Yuan Zhen Hai” an ultra large ore carrier by CCS, the total gross tonnage of CCS fleet of surveyed ships exceeded 100 million GT. This marks an important milestone in marching toward the world top classification society and embarking upon a new development journey.
In 2016, CCS classed fleet broke 100 million tons, only four years after CCS blowing the horn of marching towards “100 million ton classification society” in 2012.
Becoming a member of “100 million ton classed fleet club” not only means that CCS has developed to a new level in terms of its influence on clients and its comprehensive strength and has laid a solid foundation for the realization of international first rate classification society; but also puts forward higher requirements for CCS in the field of talent construction, technical capability, network service and other areas.
As the main technical supporting organization for Chinese government to participate in International Maritime Organization (IMO) affairs, CCS actively participated in the formulation of international maritime technical standards and played a leading role in some areas and contributed to international maritime development as the major shipping and shipbuilding nation in the east.According to incomplete statistics, during the 12thfive-year period, CCS played an important role in the formulation of international maritime technical standards on new shipbuilding EEDI, second generation stability, noise, polar area, gas fuel, asbestos-free threshold and other international maritime technology standards.
At the International Association of Classification Societies (IACS), CCS fully participated in IACS work, played an active role and made contributions; made new breakthroughs in the research and development of common structure rules, basic common technology and forward-looking technology; “GBS rules” and the common parts of IACS GBS rules passed GBS audit with no observations. In the Asian Classification Societies Association (ACS), CCS actively played a leading role, carried out registration of legal entity of ACS secretariat in Shanghai, undertook the work of ACS technical office, effectively promoted research and development and cooperation of regional maritime technology and demonstrated to the international maritime industry the good demeanor of China as a major maritime nation, giving the industry a more profound recognition of CCS.
The year of 2016 is destined to be a year recorded in the history of CCS. On March 1, CCS Rules for Intelligent Ships came into force; on April 1, CCS Guidelines for Polar Ships came into force; on May 6, CCS was awarded the Special Contribution Award by Seatrade;on May 13, the 96thIMO Maritime Safety Committee(MSC96) conference announced CCS structural rules for bulk carriers and tankers comply with the organization’s GBS goals and functional requirements; on July 1,CCS assumed the chairmanship of IACS for the third time; on July 28, CCS classed fleet broke 100 million gross tonnage. It seems that the major events happened successively to welcome the important moment—August 1st, the 60thanniversary of CCS.
60 years’ development and 60 years’ glorious achievements. The pain and joy that CCS has ever experienced have become the foundation for its future journey. Sun Licheng, CCS President said: “60 years’development tells us that the reason of CCS leapfrog development is that CCS always stays together with the industry, no matter how the international and national economic situation changes, we are always hand in hand and bound together in common joys and sorrows.Today, through the refinement of time, the big ship that is made by us is more solid, and our cooperation spirit shines more brightly which lights our way forward. This is our magic weapon to overcome the crisis and is the endless driving force for us to make more glorious achievements.
This milestone means CCS standards and rules widely recognized, a capable survey team good at business profession & quality, government authorizations from 40 countries or regions, 34 overseas branches spreading around the world, more strength and confidence, and one step forward and closer to the “world first class” dream.
