The achievements of genetically modified(GM)maize in herbicide tolerance, insect resistance, disease resistance and alkali resistance were reviewed in this paper so as to provide some reference for the researches on molecular breeding of maize in China.

M aize is one of the important human foods. In the past few decades, traditional crossbreeding has made great contributions to human food production. However, with the surge in human population, traditional breeding techniques can not meet the demand for food, energy and the like by people.GM technology has been developed rapidly for its producing biological traits in a relatively short period. It is predicted that by 2030,half of the global agricultural products will be provided by transgenic technology[1].In this paper, the achievements of GM maize in herbicide tolerance, insect resistance, disease resistance and alkali resistance were reviewed, providing some reference for the researches on molecular breeding of maize in China.
