Archaeologists work underwater excavating a shipwreck off the coast of Dandong, northeast Chinas Liaoning Province, on October 5.
The shipwreck, Dandong No.1, has been tentatively identified as cruiser Zhiyuan, one of the Beiyang Fleet warships sunk by the Japanese Navy in the Yellow Sea during the Sino-Japanese War of 1894-95. The shipwreck was first discovered in 2013.
Some 100 relics have recently been salvaged from the depths of the sea, including canons and shells. The shipwreck wont be pulled out of water in the near future given concerns that the ships structure may collapse.
