Status quo (Jan.-May,2015) of China’s silk industry

General performance

Major products output kept stable

Based on the survey of 395 silk enterprises above designated size from National Bureau of Statistics of the Peoples Republic of China, the output of silk, in the first five months of 2015, reached 60,943 tons, up 0.99 percentage points year on year. Among those enterprises, 41 ones output 3,333 tons spun silk, down 9.82 percentage points year on year; 251 ones did 241.73 million meters silk fabrics, down 1.00 percentage point year on year; 125 ones did 8.57 million silk quilts, down 3.05 percentage points year on year.

Industrial economy burdens much downward pressure

From January to May, according to the survey of 887 silk and finish machining enterprises above designated size, the prime operating revenue of the industry reached 47.44 billion yuan, up 3.58 percentage points. At the same time, the benefits reached 2.11 billion yuan, up 12.21 percentage points year on year. Among those benefits, the finish machining of filature did 1.14 billion yuan with an increase of 12.61 percentage points year on year, of silk weaving did 0.878 billion yuan with an increase of 15.82 percentage points year on year, and of dyeing did 94 million yuan with a decrease of 15.87 percentage points year on year.

Generally speaking, since July of 2014, the prime operating revenue of the industry has been walking onto the downward way, and this May witnessed a fresh low. In addition, the growth of the benefits picked up in the first quarter of 2015, while it went down in the second quarter. Above all, it shows the industry burdens more downward pressure.

Foreign trade faces severe situation

According to General Administration of Customs of the Peoples Republic of China, in the first five months of 2015, the export of natural silk products reached 1.109 billion dollars, down 12.12 percentage points year on year.

Viewed from product categories, silk products exported 5238.5 tons with a decrease of 3.18 percentage points, and 0.231 billion dollars with a decrease of 11.11 percentage points year on year. Among those products, raw silk did 3414 tons with a decrease of 2.28 percentage points year on year, and 175.454 million dollars with a decrease of 13.28 percentage points year on year; silks and satins did 54.175 million meters with a decrease of 16.11 percentage points year on year, and 307.478 million dollars with a decrease of 18.42 percentage points year on year. Besides that, silk garments and its articles exported 570.705 million dollars, down 8.74 percentage points year on year.

Export features in the first five months:

·The export of main products went down.

·The export of provinces and cities intensified differentiation.

·The export of main sales markets declined.

·The export of silk products appeared obviously downward trend.
