横平竖直的精神

It is crucial to study regular script at first， for it is the simplest style and easier to learn compared with other scripts. Regular script is not only the basis but also the peak among Five Scripts. If we cannot write it neatly， how can we study further？ Many people can write a good hand but only a few of them could become real calligraphers.

五体之中，楷书是基础，最简单，习字必先楷法，横平竖直都写不好便没有“资格”去凤舞龙飞；众书之间，楷书又是一大高峰，写好最难，即便写好了横平竖直也未必能写出书法之神韵，成为真正的书法家，单单能做到规整的不过是写字匠。
