REMEMBERING THE FALLEN

Shao Jingdou （left）， a 101-year-old veteran who fought against Japanese invaders during the Battle of Taierzhuang in 1938， shakes hands with 102-year-old Jiang Siyu， who worked as a reporter during the same battle， on April 8 at the historical battle site in Zaozhuang， east Chinas Shandong Province.

A number of veterans and their descendants gathered there to commemorate the 77th anniversary of the Chinese victory in the battle， a major victory in the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression （1937-45）. At the time， it greatly galvanized the Chinese people in their efforts to fend off the invading Japanese army.
