Soldiers help residents in a village in Tingri County, Xigaze, southwest Chinas Tibet Autonomous Region, by setting up tents on April 28 after an 8.1-magnitude earthquake hit Nepal, also affecting Tibet, three days earlier.
By April 28, the death toll in Tibet had reached 25, with four people missing and 383 injured. The earthquake affected nearly half of Xigazes 700,000 residents. Gyirong, Nyalam and Tingri, which lie along the China-Nepal border, were the worst hit.
Relief efforts are underway in quake-stricken areas. By that day, the Ministry of Civil Affairs had sent 20,000 tents, 50,000 quilts, 50,000 cotton-padded coats, 15,000 folding beds and 15,000 sleeping bags to the affected areas.
