Preliminary Review

The first step in manuscript evaluation is a general examination by the editorial staff if the submitted manuscript falls in the scope of the journal concerning subject scope, archival editorial style, organization of materials, topical importance, timeliness, relationship to prior publication, conciseness, appropriate references, English proficiency, and length. In the case of need, opinion from an editor-in-chief is referred.

Formal Review

A research paper is sent to two independent peer reviewers for confidential review. Reviewers were selected from the database by matching the keywords given in the manuscript with the expertise of peer experts. A manuscript submitted as a technical note is usually reviewed by one referee only. Each reviewer is asked to judge the technical validity of the manuscript and the extent of its advance beyond work previously published. The reviewer is asked also for advices concerning the specific merits and/or deficiencies of the manuscript. The reviewers may advise the editors on the accelerated publication mainly on the consideration of protecting the intellectual property. However, the decision to publish, to require major revision before publication, or to reject manuscripts lies with the judgment of editors-in-chief, largely relied on the peer review reports. It takes a minimum of several months (about 6) after receipt of the manuscript to accomplish the evaluation and review steps discussed above.

Revision or Rebuttal

If the paper is rejected or if extensive revisions requested that the author believes are incorrect or unwarranted, he is entitled to submit a point-by-point rebuttal to the editor's statement of reasons and the reviewers' comments. The rebuttal then is analyzed by the editors, and a final decision is made, mostly after an additional review cycle. Even when the author has no intention for rebuttal, he must compile a sheet of point-to-point response to what is demanded by the editor when revising his paper, and must finish the revision within the stated time period.Formal acceptance will not occur until the author has complied with all of the revision requests (if any) made by the editors and has prepared the paper in the CJChE style.

Acceptance and Publication

When a paper is formally accepted, it will be scheduled for publication in a forthcoming issue. The editors-in-chief will browse the scheduled issue before it is directed to the printing agency, and the accepted paper might be subjected to being asked for an additional major technical revision and be delayed to a latter issue. Papers will usually be published in the order of their original receipt, except when accelerated publication is necessary for papers reporting breakthrough-making academic and technical progress upon initiated by reviewers' advice. Proofs will be sent to authors for correction and should be returned to the printer in 48 hours.
