At present, Chifeng city has formed a copper industrial chain consisting of copper mining and dressing, copper smelting, copper electrolysis and copper processing, and a zinc industrial chain of zinc mining and dressing, zinc smelting and zinc alloy. The metallurgical industry is gradually starting a development approach of long industrial chain and high industrial correlation. Nonferrous metal magnates including China Nonferrous Metal Mining (Group) Co., Ltd., Yunan Copper (Group) Co., Ltd., Dongbei Special Steel (Group) Co., Ltd. and Shandong Gold Mining Co., Ltd. have settled in the city one after another.
In 2013, Chifeng’s nonferrous metal industry confronted the crisis and went against the trend, achieving over 10% in the added-value of the metallurgical industry. Chifeng Yuntong Nonferrous Metal Co., Ltd. invested RMB13 million in technological innovation in 2013, as the vice chairperson of the company’s union Yan Ronghui said, “We have realized continuous operation after the progressive tempering of blister copper, thus we are able to reduce cost.”
In the past year, many nonferrous metal enterprises in Chifeng city including Chifeng Yuntong Nonferrous Metal Co., Ltd. intensified their efforts in product innovation and development. Huanggang Mining Co., Ltd. successfully separated tungsten and tin, and can sell tungsten as a separate product which used to be treated as an impurity; the profiled strip project of Chifeng Jingtong Copper Co., Ltd with an annual capacity of 60,000 tons was put into operation, and its advanced manufacturing process has filled the gap of our country in this respect. Vice Director of the city’s Economic and Information Technology Commission Peng Feng said, “We are strengthening technological support for industrial development in a bid to realize industrial and product upgrade, and to ensure sustainable and healthy growth of Chifeng’s nonferrous metal industry.”
