语法课堂可以得到美和欢乐

Larsen Freeman 提出一个三维语法教学模式—— Form (How is it formed?), Meaning (What does it mean?)和 Pragmatics( When / Why is it used?)。 高中英语语法教学只有把语言形式、意义和用法有机地结合起来,才能更好地培养学生运用语法的能力。我的理解是:要遵循简要、易学和有用三原则,给学生最大限度地创造机会让他们使用语法,在使用中体会语法带来的快乐和成就感。

1.在音乐中学习语法。

译林版《牛津高中英语》模块三的语法重点是whatever引导的从句,在英文歌Right here waiting(《此情可待》)的音乐声中,我们开始了状语从句的学习。

Oceans apart day after day... /Wherever you go/Whatever you do/I will be right here waiting for you...

再如,在模块五第二单元我们碰到了典型的虚拟语气句:“If I were the president of Italy, I would consider taking away his liscence.”为了能理解这个语法点,我和学生一起观看并欣赏了碧昂丝演唱的If I were a boy(《如果我是个男孩》),要求他们在反复听和观看之后完成填空:

If I ___ (am) a boy /Even just for a day I__ ___ ___ of bed in the morning/ And throw on what I wanted and go/Drink beer with the guys/ And chase after girls/ I____ ___ it with who I wanted/ And I___ ___get confronted for it /Because they___ ___ ___for me. /If I ____ a boy I think I ___ understand how it feels to love a girl / I s___(发誓) I ____ ____ a better man....

2.让英语短剧驱赶语法学习的紧张。

情态动词是高中阶段必学的内容,意思较多,抽象的理论讲解往往会让学生一头雾水。于是,我引用了《新概念英语》中一个个生动有趣的故事。例如,第二册第19课Sold out(《票已售完》):“我”匆忙赶到售票处,却被告知票已售完。

“The play may begin at any moment,” I said. “ It may have begun already,”Susan answered. ...“I might as well have them,”I said sadly.

至今仍然能记得学生在听了磁带里售票员怪声怪气的声音后的哈哈大笑,在接下来的那一堂课里我又让他们表演这个短剧,在一遍遍的听读、模仿、表演中,学生对情态动词表示对过去的推测这一语法知识点有了感性的认识,学习的焦虑和紧张消除了很多。

3.语法为我们的生活增添乐趣。

在学习非谓语动词、虚拟语气时,我让学生阅读、模仿造句和讲演,让他们明白此语法点是有用的,是为表达我们的愿望服务的。如在学习“意外结果”的表达时,师生共读了一条演艺明星的八卦新闻:“To everyone’s surprise,Giddens went over and locked lips with Ko for ten seconds,leaving Chen shocked. ”(见21st Century Teens高二版)吸引了学生的注意力。有时,我还会利用明星人物的新闻,引导学生关注英语表达方式灵活的特点,如Justin Bieber seems to be everywhere these days, making albums, performing in concerts, even taking over the book charts with his autobiography.再如I hurried to school only to find that it was Sunday. I hurried to the station only to be told that the train had left one minute before.另外,我让学生以If I were a teacher/ mayor...为题演讲,让语法与生活贴近起来,在实际表达运用中进行语法点的巩固。

4.让诗歌、格言和散文尽显语法的美。

语法可以是美的,我常和学生一起分享、赏析一些很有文学气息的诗歌、格言及散文。例如,诗歌 The more you...(《你越多地……》)。

The more you give, The more you get./ The more you laugh,The less you forget. / The more you do unselfishly, The more you live abundantly. /The more of everything you share, The more you’ll always have to spare. /The more you love, The more you’ll find that life is good and friends are kind. /For only what we give away enriches us from day to day.

这首诗既完善了教学,又成就了我们的德育目标。

语法不仅仅代表着枯燥的语法规则,晦涩难懂的语法术语,永远做不完的语法高考题,语法是有趣的、生动的、美丽的。当我们以激动人心的方式呈现语法时,当我们在轻松愉悦的氛围中感知语法时,当我们带着好奇和喜悦的心情去记忆含有重要语法规则的句子时……我看到年轻的眼睛里闪烁着光芒,能听到他们充满活力的笑声,意识到自己是他们学习和笑声中的一部分——这是教育者得到的最好的回报。
