Hainan Province Obtained 61 Exploration Rights in Multiple Countries
2013-08-15
According to news sources from Hainan Province Land and Resources Department, Hainan Province actively implemented geological prospecting “Walking out” strategy, up till now Hainan geological prospecting units and enterprises have acquired 61 exploration rights, and 4 mining rights in Mozambique, Madagascar, Democratic Republic of Congo, Malawi, and Peru, and initially established overseas mineral resources geological prospecting pattern. Some mineral resource risk prospecting special projects have made significant prospecting breakthroughs, it discovered one medium-sized zirconium and titanium sand mine, one large iron mine, one medium-sized copper mine, and multiple gold, copper and lead-zinc mines.
It has been learned that Hainan Province is a “small province in mining industry”, Hainan Province merged provincial Marine Geology Prospecting Bureau and Hainan Province Geology & Mineral Resources Exploration Development Bureau, and formally founded Hainan Province Geology Bureau on September 9, 2010. The newly founded Provincial Geology Bureau is mainly engaged in geological prospecting, marine geology survey, overseas mineral resource prospecting and development, and engineering prospecting construction and geological scientific research work. Since 2009, this Bureau adhered to the overall thinking of “Departing from Hainan Island, march into the sea, develop overseas market”, while strengthening geological prospecting, it focused on financing cooperation, and project operation, and coordinated the development of domestic and overseas geological mining and diversified industries. This Bureau carried out effective overseas prospecting development work in countries and regions in Africa, South America, and Southeast Asia, mineral varieties include nationally needed resources such as zirconium, titanium, gold, copper, iron, and molybdenum.
At present, Hainan Province’s 3131L zirconium and titanium sand mine at Angoche, Nampula Province in Mozambique has acquired mining right and entered mine exploitation stage. The overall plan is to spend over 5 years time to build zirconium and titanium sand ore dressing base and high titanium slag smelting base, with annual total output value topping RMB 5 billion yuan. Meanwhile, in order to extend industrial chain, and increase added value, the Mozambique Mine Exploitation and Processing Project will be further extended into the island, it is planned to transport zirconium and titanium ore exploited from Mozambique back to Hainan for deep processing, and produce serial products including high titanium slag, chlorination process titanium dioxide powder and sponge titanium, increase product added value, and extend industrial chain.
