November
24th EORTC-NCI-AACR symposium on molecular targets and cancer therapeutics
November 6-9,2012; Dublin,Ireland
The 24th EORTC-NCI-AACR symposium on molecular targets and cancer therapeutics will take place from November 6-9 2012 at Dublin,Ireland.Hosted by the European Organisation for Research and Treatment of Cancer, the National Cancer Institute and the American Association for Cancer Research, the 2012 symposium will bring together over 2000 academics, scientists and pharmaceutical industry representatives from across the globe to discuss innovations in drug development, target selection and the impact of new discoveries in molecular biology. For more information, please visit:http://www.ecco-org.eu/Home/Conferences/Conferences/EORTC_NCI_AACR%202012.aspx.
Post-GWAS Horizons in molecular epidemiology:digging deeper into the environment
November 11-14,2012; Westin Diplomat Resort,Hollywood,FL,USA
Genome-wide association studies (GWAS) have brought forth a vast amount of information on genetic risk factors for cancer. The conference will showcase and discuss new areas of research in molecular epidemiology, focusing on the integration of novel measures of internal and external environmental factors in consortia and genetic studies.Research findings will be presented to illustrate the vast potential within the context of epidemiologic studies in a post-GWAS context to further the prevention of cancer and elucidate mechanisms of carcinogenesis.Large-scale publicly-available research resources will be highlighted and their "rules to play"discussed.Late-breaking findings from genomics, epigenomics, and proteomics in epidemiologic studies will be presented with a view to discern the most promising strategies with the greatest public health impact. For more information, please visit:http://www.aacr.org/home/scientists/meetings--workshops/special-conferences/post-gwas-horizons-in-molecularepidemiology.aspx.
Translational cancer research for basic scientists
November 26-December 1,2012; Hilton Boston Back Bay,Boston,MA,USA
This workshop is hosted in close collaboration with the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute/Harvard Cancer Center, comprised of Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center,Brigham and Women's Hospital,Children's Hospital Boston,Dana-Farber Cancer Institute,Harvard Medical School,Harvard School of Public Health and Massachusetts General Hospital. The Translational Cancer Research for Basic Scientists Workshop will provide basic research scientists with a better understanding of translational research, teach them how to adapt their research for maximum clinical impact, and help them transition into a new career in translational cancer medicine. This innovative workshop addresses many aspects of translational research including leading multidisciplinary teams, working collaboratively and effectively with industry partners, recognizing the unique needs and environment of the clinic and clinical laboratories, dealing with the regulatory and compliance issues in translational science, and understanding the perspective of the patient in order to place research questions into a broader context.During the course of the week, attendees will gain perspective and background knowledge of the disease from translational scientists in academia and industry, clinicians and patients, while learning about the latest methods and approaches in cutting-edge translational cancer research. For further information, please contact Lyngine Calizo,PhD,program administrator,at (215)446-7265 or lyngine.calizo@aacr.org.
December
Tumor immunology:multidisciplinary science driving basic and clinical advances
December 2-5,2012; Inter Continental Miami Hotel,Miami,Florida,USA
Conference co-chairpersons are Profs.Elizabeth M.Jaffee,Sidney Kimmel Cancer Center at Johns Hopkins,Baltimore,MD; Stanley Riddell,Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center,Seattle,WA; and Glenn Dranoff,Dana-Farber Cancer Institute,Boston,MA.The central theme of this conference is to present and discuss the rapidly developing advances in basic and translational tumor immunology.Central to this theme will be updates on the immunologyfield's adoption of new technologies in molecular biology, proteomics, engineering, and imaging that are providing novel insights into the cytokine/chemokine,receptor:ligand checkpoint, genetic, and epigenetic regulatory pathways that in fluence the in flammatory changes that are critical to cancer development and progression. In addition, this conference will highlight new advances in targeting these pathways for cancer prevention and treatment. The conference will bring together cancer immunologists and clinical researchers in the field with a broad focus that will include advances in basic immunologic principles and new approaches for the treatment and prevention of different cancers.Attendees will include cancer immunologists and nonimmunologists who are applying new technologies and concepts aimed at dissecting the in flammatory and immune responses that contribute to cancer development and progression.Building on AACR's previously successful Cancer Immunology Special Conferences,it is expected that this conference will provide for highly stimulating discussions that will further the scientific and translational goals of the field and allow for more effective exchange between cancer immunologists and scientists in otherfields with expertise that can be applied to cancer immunology. For more information, please visit:http://www.aacr.org/home/scientists/meetings--workshops/specialconferences/tumor-immunology-multidisciplinaryscience-driving-basic-and-clinical-advances.aspx.
