Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) in adults is a common disease, usually associated with cardiovascular disease and metabolic syndrome.Though involving many medical disciplines,it is often overlooked by physicians. In the past two decades, the population of obese people has greatly increased. As obesity is a major risk factor of OSA,it is possible that the incidence of OSA will rocket in the near future. Thus,it is necessary and important to educate physicians about OSA.The intention of the bookObstructive Sleep Apnea in Adults–Relationship with Cardiovascular and Metabolic Disordersis to provide physicians with the diagnostic and therapeutic strategies of OSA.

The book is divided into 6 chapters. The first chapter introduces the diagnostic and therapeutic options for OSA according to the document of American Academy of Sleep Medicine.Chapter 2 clarifies the pathophysiologic mechanisms by which OSA contributes to the development and progression of cardiovascular and metabolic disorders.Chapter 3 defines the associations between OSA and obesity, glucose metabolic disorder, and liver function impairment.Chapter 4 to Chapter 6 discuss the relationships of OSA with vascular endothelial dysfunction, autonomic nerve dysfunction, and cardiovascular diseases, and the results of studies investigating the effect of OSA treatment on the concomitant cardiovascular diseases.

This book contains plenty of diagrams and illustrations. It is simple, concise, thorough, and easy for consultation. It would provide great help for clinical practitioners in understanding and managing OSA.
