Plasma Process for Coal-based Acetylene Technology Independently Developed by Xinjiang Tianye Company

Five China Invention Patents have been granted to “Plasma process for coal-based acetylene technology” independently developed by the Xinjiang Tianye Company, which boasts a group of technical patents on its core process and equipment.

Pyrolysis of coal to manufacture acetylene in thermal plasma reactor, which is based on the high-temperature hydrogen plasma, enhanced chemical affinity, and the characteristic feature relating to the close carbon/hydrogen ratio between coal and acetylene, is realized by ejecting directly the pulverized coal in the hydrogen plasma with a temperature exceeding 3 500 ℃ to activate quick pyrolysis of coal and reach chemical equilibrium at 1 500 ℃ to form a pyrolysis gas composed dominantly of acetylene and hydrogen, which after gas separation and concentration to yield high-purity acetylene. This technology is characteristic of low carbon emissions, low resource consumption, low pollution, short process flow diagram, clean and high-efficiency production, and will have broad prospect in the area of clean utilization of coal.

The Xinjiang Tianye Company has successively been engaging in joint R&D activities with the Fudan University, the Russian Academy of Sciences, the Chinese Academy of Sciences, the Tsinghua University, and the Zhejiang University, and has constructed the first in the world demonstration unit for pyrolysis of coal to acetylene by thermal plasma rated at 5 MW. Currently the high-energy plasma torch reactor has been operating with 100% of success with the startup overcurrent being less than 30%, and the plasma torch reactor has been continuously and smoothly operating for more than 200 hours.
