Experiments for Hydrogenation of Pyrolysis C5Fraction Performed at PetroChina Petrochemical Research Institute
On January 30, 2013 the Petrochemical Research Institute of PetroChina has completed the experiments for twostage hydrogenation of pyrolysis C5fraction at the Daqing Petrochemical Company. Test results have revealed that the content of both diolefins and mono-olefins in hydrotreated products is less than 0.1% to fully meet the specification requiring less than 0.1% of olefins in steam cracking feedstock.
The Daqing Petrochemical Company produces annually about 100 kt of pyrolysis C5fraction, a small proportion of which is used for extraction of cyclopentadiene and dicyclopentadiene, with the remainder serving as the steam cracker feedstock. However, the mixed C5distillate contains around 40% of diolefins and about 20% of mono-olefins that are not suited for steam cracking and must be hydrotreated to saturate olefins for obtaining qualified steam cracking feedstock. After strenuous efforts of production and research staffs the first stage of hydrotreating unit has manufactured 15 kg of product which contained less than 0.1% of diolefins, while the second stage of hydrotreating unit has manufactured 5 kg of product that contained less than 0.1% of monoolefins. Currently the research team is assessing the pyrolysis simulation tests.
