Four Points by Sheraton & Aloft Beijing,Haidian Complex goes dark for Earth Hour 2012
For the fourth consecutive year,Starwood Hotels and Resorts around the Globe join together to mark environmental awareness event.
By spending an hour in the dark, Four Points by Sheraton & Aloft Beijing, Haidian Complex joined millions around the world to send a powerful message about a brighter future for the planet.
Four Points by Sheraton & Aloft Beijing,Haidian Complex turned off its lights in observance of Earth Hour, the global environmental awareness event created by the World Wildlife Fund. Last year, Earth Hour 2011 became the biggest Earth Hour ever.A record 135 countries and territories joined the global display of climate action. Iconic buildings and landmarks from Asia Paci fi c to Europe and Africa to America switched off. People across the world from all walks of life turned off their lights and came together in celebration and contemplation of the one thing we all have in common—our planet.
To underscore parent Starwood Hotels &Resorts Worldwide, Inc.’s dedication to environmental sustainability, Four Points by Sheraton &Aloft Beijing, Haidian Complex also shared other energy-saving measures during Earth Hour at 8:30 p.m. local time on March 31. They included turning off exterior signage lighting, dimming or turning off non-essential interior lighting; using candlelight in appropriate public areas such as restaurants and bars; and using in-room television messages to inform guests about Earth Hour observances.
Earth Hour is drawing strong support from Starwood hotels around the globe. Last year, unlit hotels offered striking visual imagery that provided an apt symbol of Earth Hour. Seventy-four percent of hotels in Greater China area have participated in this event.
“We are calling for every guest to write down green actions they’re going to take and stick on a backdrop which is a tree shape,” said Zhang Lei, Managing Director of Four Points by Sheraton & Aloft Beijing, Haidian Complex. “We are glad to join in this meaningful event. It has already been the third time we participate in Earth Hour. And we will support this event continuously.”
Besides, Four Points by Sheraton & Aloft Beijing, Haidian Complex specially invited guests to write down their green tips, put on a painted tree and build up a green tree. Guests could spend the dark moment with music, and hotel specially prepared free fi nger food and drinks for guests.
This year marks Starwood’s third annual participation in Earth Hour, making it one of the biggest worldwide companies to make a global statement with a voluntary hour of darkness.
