On September 26, 2012, the completion ceremony of the 800,000-ton alumina project was held at the alumina factory in Matang Industrial Park, Wenshan city, Yunnan.
Wenshan’s 800,000-ton alumina project and its supporting mining construction projects have been listed as one of 20 major industrial construction projects of Yunnan. The project covers an area of approximately 5,500 mu, with an estimated total investment of RMB 4,987 million. It is invested and built mainly by Yunnan Wenshan Aluminum Co., Ltd., a subsidiary under Yunnan Metallurgical Group Co., Ltd. The project involved the entire industrial chain of Yunnan’s aluminum industry ranging from production of bauxite to processing of aluminum, filled the blank of Yunnan’s alumina industry and improved the industrial chain of the aluminum industry of Yunnan.
Yunnan Metallurgical Group boasts state-ofthe-art technologies and equipments of using diaspore to produce granular alumina, which have solved the problem of using industrial gas to make alumina and problems related to aluminum oxide sulfur, and solved the resource bottleneck that restricts development of the aluminum industry of the whole province. During the 12th “Five-year” period, Wenshan Aluminum will focus on 10 plus technological projects concerning researches on industrial application of production of industrial fuel gas through ash agglomerating fluidized bed fine coal gasification in the alumina industry, etc.
