warrior Christian love setback
Ⅰ.Ⅰntroduction
Jane Eyrewas published in October 1847.About the heroine, there are many comments, but to the male protagonist—Mr.Rochester, there is nearly seldom. In the view of era and creation,Rochester has great significant in literature.
Ⅱ.Brave soldier for love
Rochester was born in a notable family. His father arranged the marriage for him with a wealthy woman,so that he could live a rich life. But the pre-arranged marriage was based on money. His love for Jane rekindled hope. When Rochester proposed marriage and Jane agreed to marry him,he immediately prepared for the marriage in the danger of crime of bigamy without hesitation. He thought that the social conventions had no right to judge him,and in the court of God,he would be pardoned.God would approve of what he did.For the world’s judgment,he cared nothing.
Ⅲ.British Christian
Rochester prayed for God,struggled to cleanse himself of a shame of a misspent, dissipated life.He hoped to begin a new life with Jane.In the end of the novel,Rochester suffered a series of adversity. He said that,“disaster came thick on me;I was forced to pass through the valley of the shadow of death. His chastisements are mighty;and one smote me which has humbled me forever. You know I was proud of my strength;but what is it now, when I must give it over to foreign guidance,as a child does its weakness?”
Ⅳ.The refinement of author’love setback
Shakespeare lost the love of MangFitton,so he created Ophelia to fulfill his love in the poem.Charlotte’s own experience and creation of Jane Eyre were not exception. The love of a young governess to her married employer had connections with Charlotter’s experience. In other words, her ideal marriage was fully realized in the novel Jane Eyre.Charlotte created the figure of Rochester with the prototype of Mr.Heger.He had a dark face with sever features and heavy forehead.Rochester also had qualities of generosity, compassion and kindness. So we can say that Rochester is the perfect re-appearance of Mr.Heger.
Ⅴ.Conclusion
Jane Eyreis a novel of autobiography and half-autobiography.But,we can still see the shadow of Charlotte between the lines.By creating the figure of Rochester, she released her passion to Heger;by the perfect combination of the male and female protagonists, she realized her ideal marriage. This is the refinement of art.
