Tibet Speeds Up Construction of Nonferrous Metal Base in Eastern Tibet

Changdu Area is located on the famous Sanjiang metallogenic belt in East Tibet, featuring a huge variety of mineral resources, with nearly one hundred mineral varieties including gold, silver, copper and iron, the proven major ore types cover 52 types in 6 categories, with 714 various ore spots, in which the proven copper metal resource reserve is 10,340,000 tonnes, lead zinc ore resource reserve is 4,000,000 tonnes.

Wujin Pingcuo, an official of the Changdu Area Administration Office, said the Yulong Copper Mine currently being developed has over 6,500,000 tonnes of proven metal reserve, its estimated prospective reserve can reach above 10,000,000 tonnes, making it China’s largest and Asia’s second largest extra-large single-body copper mine.

During the “Twelfth Five Year” period,Changdu Area will integrate resources, make overall planning, and execute full-scale development; place emphasis on integrated development of Yulong Copper Mine, Kamaduo Magnesite and coal resources, strive to develop 100,000 t/a above capacity in metal copper, and 100,000 t/a above capacity in magnesium oxide by the end of the “Twelfth Five Year” period, and initially build up East Tibet Nonferrous Metal Industry Base. Meanwhile, Changdu will properly handle external supporting conditions, especially speeding up transport and energy technology facility construction, and formulate preferential policies.

During the “Twelfth Five Year” period, Tibet Changdu Area will regard mining industry as an important pillar industry in economic development for focused cultivation and expansion;it will further intensify efforts in the construction of nonferrous metal base.
