The Little Red Hen lives near a grain yard.She walks around and looks for worms every day.小红母鸡住在一个谷场里，整天都到处走来走去，在各个地方找虫子吃。

One day,she finds a seed—a wheat seed.She has never seen such a“worm”.She tastes but finds it is different from the worms.She is a little puzzled.一天，小红母鸡发现了一粒种子——小麦种子。她以前从来没有见过这样的“虫子”。于是，她轻轻地啄了它一下，发现它的味道和虫子一点都不一样，她感到很疑惑。

She takes it to others and learns it is a wheat seed.If it is planted,it will grow.And then it can be ground into flour and then it can be made into bread.于是小红母鸡拿着它请教别人，得知这是小麦种子。如果种下它，它还会成长，当它成熟以后可以磨成面粉，做成面包。

After the Little Red Hen knows all,she believes it should be grown.But she is busy seeking food for his children.She will not have time to plant it.当小红母鸡了解了这一切，她觉得应该种下这个东西。可是平时她要给自己和孩子们找食物，太忙了。她没有时间种这粒小麦。

The Little Red Hen asks,“Who will plant this wheat?”The dog,the cat,the pig and the turkey say,“I won’t.”“Then I will.”says the Little Red Hen.“Cluck!Cluck!”小红母鸡问道：“谁愿意种这粒小麦?”狗、猫、猪、火鸡都说：“我不种。”“那我自己种。”小红母鸡说，“克拉克！克拉克！”

So she planted the grain of wheat.Very soon the wheat began to grow and the green leaves came out of the field.The Little Red Hen is very glad to see it.小红母鸡把那粒小麦种好了。很快，麦子破土而出，冒出了绿芽。小红母鸡看到这一切非常开心。

The sun shone and the rain fell and soon the wheat kept on growing until it was tall,strong,and ripe.The Little Red Hen is happy to think of the good harvest.阳光的照射，雨水的浇灌，麦子长得又高又壮，渐渐成熟了。小红母鸡一想到收成不错，开心极了。

The Little Red Hen asks,“Who will reap this wheat?”The dog,the cat,the pig and the turkey says,“I won’t.”They shake their heads as they say so.小红母鸡又问大家：“谁愿意收麦子？”狗、猫、猪和火鸡都说：“我不收。”他们一边摇头一边说。

The Little Red Hen says,“I will,then.Cluck!Cluck!”So she reaped the wheat.She is so tired,but she is happy to see the wheat.小红母鸡说，“那我去收。克拉克！克拉克！”于是她把小麦收割了。小红母鸡累极了，但是看见这些小麦，她很开心。

The Little Red Hen asks,“Who will thresh this wheat?”“I won’t.”says the dog,the cat,the pig and the turkey，shaking their hands.小红母鸡又问：“谁愿意打麦子？”狗、猫、猪和火鸡边挥手边说：“我不打。”

“I will,then,”says the Little Red Hen.“Cluck!Cluck!”So she threshed the wheat.The Little Red Hen is covered with sweat，but she is smiling happily.“那我去打。”小红母鸡说。“克拉克！克拉克！”小红母鸡把麦子打好了。小红母鸡累得满头大汗，但是她开心地笑了。

The Little Red Hen asks anxiously,“Who will take this wheat to the mill to have it ground?”The dog,the cat,the pig and the turkey say,“I won’t.”They go to play games with the words.小红母鸡着急地问道：“谁愿把小麦拿到磨房去磨？”狗、猫、猪和火鸡都说：“我不去。”说完这些话，他们就去玩游戏了。

The Little Red Hen says,“I will,then.Cluck!Cluck! ”So she took the wheat to the mill.It’s getting dark when she came back with the flour.She hurries to look after her children.“那我去。”小红母鸡说。“克拉克！克拉克！”于是，她把小麦背去磨了。夜色降临了，小红母鸡把面粉背了回来。她又匆忙地去照顾她的孩子们。

The Little Red Hen asks anxiously,“Who will bake this flour?”The dog,the cat,the pig and the turkey say,“I won’t.We are playing hide-and-seek now.”小红母鸡又问：“谁愿意烤面包？”狗、猫、猪和火鸡都说：“我不烤，我们正在玩捉迷藏的游戏。”

The Little Red Hen says,“I will,then.”“Cluck!Cluck!”So she bakes the flour and makes a loaf of bread.When she finishes,it is dark outside.But she doesn’t feel tired.小红母鸡说：“那我去烤。克拉克！克拉克！”她把面粉烤熟了，做了一条面包。当她做完这一切，天已经黑了。但是，她一点都不感到累。

The Little Red Hen asks,“Who will eat this bread?”The dog,the cat,the pig and the turkey say,“I will.”They all reach out their hands to the bread.小红母鸡又问：“谁来吃面包呀？”狗、猫、猪和火鸡都说：“我要吃。”他们都把伸手去拿面包。

The Little Red Hen says,“No,my children and I will.Cluck!Cluck!Remember!No pains,no gains!”And she starts to eat the loaf of bread with her children.The Little Red Hen is so happy to do such for her children.小红母鸡说：“不行，我和我的孩子们吃。克拉克！克拉克！记住!一分耕耘，一分收获！”她和孩子们开始吃面包。小红母鸡很高兴为孩子们做的这一切。
