Cheng-Zhong Xu received his BS and MSdegrees from Nanjing University in 1986 and 1989,respectively,and Ph.D.degree from the University of Hong Kong in 1993,all in computer science.He is currently a professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering of Wayne State University,the Director of Cloud and Internet Computing Laboratory,and the Director of Sun Microsystems’Center of Excellence in Open Source Computing and Applications.He also holds a visiting professorship at Shanghai Jiaotong University and Beijing University of Posts and Telecommunications.His research interest is mainly in distributed systems and the Internet,datacenters and cloud computing,and wireless embedded systems,with an emphasis on resource and system management for performance,availability,reliability,energy efficiency,and security.He is currently the principal investigator of five U.S.NSFfunded projects in these areas.His research was also supported by other funding agencies like U.S.NASAand NSFof China.He has published more than 160 scientific papers,including over 20 articles in IEEE/ACM transactions.He is the author of"Scalable and Secure Internet Services and Architecture"(Chapman&Hall/CRC Press,2005)and a co-author of"Load Balancing in Parallel Computers:Theory and Practice"(Kluwer Academic,1996).
Dr.Xu serves on the editorialboards of IEEETransactions on Parallel and Distributed Systems,Journal of Parallel and Distributed Computing,Journal of Parallel,Emergent,and Distributed Systems,Journal of Computers and Applications,and Journal of High Performance Computing and Networking.He has served dozens of international conferences and workshops in capacities as program chair,general chair,and plenary speaker.He is a recipient of the Faculty Research Award of Wayne State University in 2000,the President’s Award for Excellence in Teaching in 2002,and the Career Development Chair Award in 2003.He is also a recipient of the"Oversea Outstanding Scholar”award of NSFof China.For more information,please visit:http://www.ece.eng.wayne.edu/~czxu/.
