Zhang Haidi, a wheelchair-bound writer, was elected chairwoman of the China Disabled Persons' Federation on November 13, replacing Deng Pufang who will serve as honorary chairman. The election was held during the fifth national congress of the federation, which is engaged in the promotion and protection of the fights and interests of the country's 83 million persons with disabilities.
