China's booming economy is draw-ing foreign investors in record numbers.However, for some, that has meant having todeal with volumes of ever-changing regula-tions, high initial capital expenditures andshifting political alliances. Some of China'smost highly regulated industries have cometo represent the last, great Holy Grail for for-eign investment on the mainland. Whether itis banking or energy, these sectors continueto remain elusively out of reach for all butthe biggest and most patient of the large mul-tinationals. In this article, we focus on threevery different industry sectors to examinehow the regulations affect being able to dobusiness in China.
