On July 30, 1984, China wonits first Olympic gold, in LosAngeles. The man who won themedal for China, Chinese shooterXu Haifeng, has since become a householdname. Back then, little attention was paid toanother man, Wang Yifu, who competed withXu in the same event, the men's 50-meterpistol, and won the bronze. Years later, Wanghimself became a legend in the ChineseOlympic team-now he is the most expe-rienced Olympic veteran in China, and hascompeted in six successive Olympic Games,more than any other athlete in the country.Between 1984 and 2004 he won two golds,three silvers and one bronze at the Olympics.
